Mission Blue Skies was inspired by the life and service of U.S. Air Force Veteran Matilde Cruz, who dedicated her life to helping others—from her military service to teaching in underserved communities, and even during her own five-and-a-half-year battle with cancer. Known for cooking meals for her fellow Veterans and treatment team at the Bronx VA, Matilde’s generosity and resilience created a healing environment for many.

In her final days, she asked that donations be made to improve cancer care for Veterans. In honoring her request, the Mission Blue Skies program was born—ensuring that Veterans receive not only advanced treatment but the compassionate, comprehensive support they deserve.
